Our seasonal 1/2 acre market garden offers cut flowers and vegetables from May to September. Our chickens have free access to the garden prior to the planting season, which helps with soil health and pest control. Our goats, pigs, and hens eat much of the unusable vegetables, and when the summer garden is finished, our goats eat down the large foliage. In the fall, we allow our pigs to turn the soil prior to planting a cover crop, which replaces the need to till. Our pigs also eat unused eggs and goat milk. We have found that with proper management and timing, the health and wellbeing of the people, animals and plants that make up this micro eco system all benefit from one another.
