We are developing a 1/2 acre market garden of cut flowers and vegetables. Our goal it to offer a CSA box along with our eggs in the coming year, as well as selling additional produce at our farmers market stall. Our chickens have free access to the garden prior to the harvest season, which helps with pest control. Our goats, pigs, and hens eat much of the unusable vegetables, and when the summer garden is finished, our goats eat down the large follage. In the fall, we allow our pigs to turn the soil prior to planting a cover crop, which replaces the need to till. Our pigs also eat unused eggs and goat milk. We have found that with proper management and timing, the health and wellbeing of the people, animals and plants that make up this micro eco system all benefit from one another.
