KNOW THE CHICKENS THAT LAY YOUR EGGS
Not everyone can get fresh eggs from their own chickens. Our goal is to connect people with the hens, flock, and family that produce their tasty eggs. This page provides photos and a little bit about the chickens on the farm. Click on the image to view as slides and check back often to see the whole flock as we continue to profile each hen.
![]() Matriarch and Oldest Hen. Mini came to us as a tiny chick (hence her name) but grew into one of our largest hens. She was at one time the most prolific layer and has maintained a laying ability, even as our oldest hen. She has always been extremely shy but is the Matriarch of the flock after her friend Hopscotch, the original matriarch, died. Breed: Plymouth Rock Favorite activity: Sitting in a nesting box. Egg color: light brown (oldest hen but still laying at a respectable rate) | ![]() Andrea is an older hen who is still near the bottom of the pecking order. She relates more to people than to chickens. Breed: Easter Egger Favorite Activity: Resting her wing on the perch. Egg Color: Blue |

![]() | ![]() Red is by far the friendliest hen in the flock. She follows any human around to the point that every time you turn around she's there and you fear you may step on her. It's hard to resist the desire to pick her up. Her expression matchers her Golden Retriever personality. Breed: Rhode Island Red Egg color: brown |
![]() Poly the Polish Hen has an attitude that matches her appearance. She has little patience for her flock mates but her Drama Queen expressions of feelings make her a favorite among humans. She is also broody, which only heightens the drama. Breed: Polish Egg Color: White | ![]() Extra was literally the extra chick in one of our first arrivals of day old chicks. She lays consistently perfect eggs, however number is diminishing with age. She enjoys announcing when she is about to lay. Breed: Olive Egger Egg color: Green (occasional layer, retired) |
![]() | ![]() Ivan is one of our friendliest hens. She was named after our daughter's friend when we thought she was a Rooster. She arrived as the smallest day old chick and was not thriving. She has grown into a magnificent chicken. Breed: Jersey Giant Egg color: brown |

![]() Tiki is a noble bird yet a bit aloof in an intentional kind of way--she's up against her sister, Red, the socialite of the flock. She lays almost every day and her eggs are perfect in appearance and quality. Breed: Rhode Island Red Egg color: brown | ![]() |
![]() Hazel has always been the most aloof hen of the flock and doesn't enjoy socializing. She's all business and layed the largest eggs in her time. She has recently stopped laying.
